Though many a times a re-tweeted URL can be safe and secure, there have been concerns where a shortened URL may lead you to a spammy website or an “unsuitable” website, especially in the cases of first tweet. And most of the times one cannot make out from the tweet itself as to whether the site being redirected to via the short URL is okay to visit or not. I personally have come across situations where I’ve clicked on “promising” links and the site I was taken to was not-suitable-for-work (NSFW). How to find a work around this problem ? One of the answers is to use a greasemonkey script. First you got to install a Greasemonkey for Firefox extension, and then install this script. http://www.dailybloggr.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/image7.png It shows you what website you are being redirected to even before click-opening the website. Just hover on the short URL and the status bar will show you the original source. This is a very effective solution to accidental clicks and running into untrusted websites shared via Twitter. A must addon to all Twitter-holics. Install the script here.
