If you have been trying Facebook Ads you would’ve already realized that although technically, they’re the same, Google Ads (or any other CPC model Ad Network) and Facebook Ads have a completely different reach and effect. Many of us try Facebook Ads like Google Ads, placing sometimes, the same copy and Ad. While it would be immature to predict if it’ll work or not, its a fact that Ads needs to be tweaked the “Facebok way” to perform well on FB (or social media for that matter.)

Why are Facebook Ads different from Google Ads ?

Actually, technically, its more or less the same. But the difference factor is not the Ahttp://bitsstation.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/facebook-ad-money.jpgds itself, but the network and people.

Google Ads are delivered on a network where people are on a “Search mode”. People are either looking for information on Google search page or skimming through content on Google Ad network (website publishers).

Where as for Facebook, people are not on a search mode, rather they are on a “Consumption mode”.

People consume content from friends, interact and have fun, they’re nor looking for information on Facebook, at least like the way they are on Google.

So, this is the main difference between Facebook and Google Ads.

So, how do you make the best out of Facebook Ads ?

Clearly, using the same formulas as in Google Ads are not going to help you.

1. Do not sell. Use an engaging title.

As I said, people on facebook are not on a buy mode. Even if you had the best product out there, people are not going to pay attention to it just because they do not expect you to sell anything at the party. At the party, you got to be entertaining. So rather than writing a title that looks like a sales pitch, make it engaging and entertaining, like the content that you typically share on facebook.

Example: “Is this iPad clone for real?” Rather than “iPad clone – Cheap Price”

2. Use pictures. They get more attention than anything.

On facebook, the attention span of anything (forget an Ad) is only microseconds. So instead of a lot of text, what you need are captivating pictures. Funny pictures, awkward pictures, beautiful pictures – depending on your product and its tone of voice.

3. Drive people to your facebook page rather than a landing page.

There’s nothing wrong if you drive people to a landing page but the problem is that, they might not be convinced as quickly as you think, because they’re pulled into the buy-mode very quickly. Instead, if you drive them to your facebook fan page, where they can access information about your product and see other people’s interactions, probably they’ll have a better chance of getting convinced.

4. Give more time for conversion.

Unlike in Google Ads, conversions don’t happen quick on Facebook. If someone shows interest in your product, they’d probably like your page and that’s it. However they’ll not forget your product, instead only with peer recommendations (which they can observe at your fan page) will they move for a purchase.

Summary

Traffic from Social Media is long frowned upon by many as its not as effectively converting as traffic from other networks. And as I said, the reason is that the people’s mindset and mode is different, so your ads needs to be tweaked to fit them. Or else you’re expecting a square to fit a circle.
